Are you an overthinker? If so, do you view it as a strength?

Because I sure didn’t. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Overthinking is often seen as a”negative” or not really a strong suit, right?

It’s often viewed as a weakness…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Something that can hold you back from taking action or keep you running around in circles, aka keep you “stuck”, causing you to feel disempowered, overwhelmed and stagnant.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Well, what if viewing “overthinking” as a weakness, causes it to become a weakness? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Kinda crazy to think about right?

The fact that it’s labeled as a weakness, which means there is an underlying belief that it is a weakness, causes us to utilize overthinking as a weakness.

To fulfill the belief that it is in fact a weakness.

Are you still following? If so, hear me out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What if instead of believing overthinking was a weakness, you saw it as a strength?

Better yet, what if you believed it was your strength?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Would it become a strength? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I think so. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

{I am a huge advocate of using the things we do well as a to our advantage even when they might be originally perceived as a weakness!}⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

At this point, you might be saying to yourself, “Okay, I kinda get what you’re saying and I’m an overthinker. So, what in the world do I do to make it a strength?” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

First, let me share with you a few reasons why overthinking is a strength, in my opinion…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You play out multiple different outcomes and see things from so many angles

You are well prepared

You can analyze a situation and know when to act

You are AWARE!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I could probably go on and on, but my point is there are strengths to overthinking, especially when it is paired with action {that’s the secret sauce}.

To make sure I use my overthinking super powers to the best of their abilities I do the following: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

1. When I realize I’m overthinking I give myself 60 seconds to continue overthinking

2. When the overthinking is over, I ask myself “What am I going to do about it?” — this allows me to get into action mode which is KEY

3. Do something about it! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

These three steps are crucial to using overthinking as a strength because thinking turns into action , which get’s you results. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So, are you an over thinker? If so, do you see it as a strength or a weakness?
